  • Fab Quote

Maybe it's the (former) teacher in me, but I loved this quote I read in the book, Belong to Me by Maris de los Santos page 63:

So that the rest of the day, Dev walked around with the sentence "What Dev said yesterday made me think of this poem" stretched over him, like a rainbow only he could see.

That my friends is the power a teacher has over a child and it should never be abused.  I was talking with another mom at the pool today and the things she said about her son's teacher this past year made me so sad.  She told me about how negative the teacher was toward the children as a group and how rudely she talked to them.  This teacher is moving up a grade next year and I'm worried that Thing 1 could end up with her.  I have very little control over that but what a sad year it will be if he gets her.

  • MJ

I did not get to watch the memorial service for Michael Jackson today but not for wanting.  I would have liked to watch it but didn't know what would go down and wasn't sure if it would be appropriate for the Things to watch  (who, if the TV is on, feel compelled to watch no matter what is being shown.)  So I watched some highlights tonight and I am so sorry I did not get to watch the whole thing - it looks like it was spectacular.  Was there anyone out there who could keep a dry eye when his daughter Paris got up and spoke about her Daddy?  And Jennifer Hudson's singing was simply lovely.  I've been scanning the dial to see if anyone will replay it in its entirety but may just have to settle for highlights.  And to the snarky people over at CNN HN - who somehow found it appropriate to talk badly about the deceased while showing video from his memorial service today - shame on you, and may that not happen to you when you pass from this world. Michael Jackson would not have done that to you and you should not have done it to him.  Learn some respect.

  • Happy 4th of July!

We are enjoying the 4th of July here at the beach along with the grandparents of the Things (my parents).  Lucky us, the little town here did their fireworks last night at the racetrack so we can skip all the hoopla tonight down in Ocean City (and the traffic!).  They shot off some cool (and different) fireworks last night - some that looked like a shower up into the sky.  Very enjoyable and pretty!  The beach was nice today too  - a nice breeze blowing but sunny, only the water was too cold (at least too cold for me).  We head home tomorrow after we squeeze in miniature golf tonight, by special request of Thing 2.  Both Things enjoyed driving the go-carts last night. Thing 2 is so happy to be driving a car all by himself -so pleased with himself when he is behind the wheel!  Now it's time for showers and a short drive to get some dinner!

  • The love of the birds continues over at our house.  I was able to snap a photo of the male and female goldfinch on the feeder tonight.

  • The Wonder and Beauty of the Internet

I miss the days when I could wander the mall aimlessly shopping for stuff I didn't really need but had to have anyway.  I miss the days when I could spend my entire day shopping at the Outlets and come back with many bags of triumph!  The Internet and its World O' Shopping has been doing its part for me, the frumpy, homebound, stay-at-home mom but it's just not the same and not nearly as much fun browsing online.  Could I still go to the mall? Yes, but I would have to bring Thing 1 and Thing 2 with me and it would....not.....be...fun.....or .....enjoyable for any of us.  Still, I do longingly gaze at the mall when I drive by it and my eyes moisten a bit as I will the car to pull over as we drive past the outlets on the way home from the beach.  A girl can dream, right?
